About Lori B. Jacobs
Several years ago, I gave birth to my first and only child who was born extremely premature. After spending five months in the hospital, I came to realize that my journey was just beginning. I had no training, and no one I knew had gone through a similar experience. I was forced to deal with enormous pressure, fear, and anxiety, along with postpartum depression. I was suddenly responsible for raising a child whose needs I could not comprehend.
Today, my daughter is attending a state university. It has been quite an experience dealing with numerous doctors and therapists, the public school system, government programs, and of course, the day-to-day challenges of learning disabilities and social issues.
This is why I became a licensed psychotherapist. Once it became clear that my daughter was on her own path, I decided that I could make a difference in people’s lives that are going through similar challenges. I received my Master’s Degree in Community Counseling from Oakland University. Since graduating with honors, I have opened a private practice in West Bloomfield.
Concurrent with my private practice I have volunteered at the Beaumont Parenting Program, and also work with clients at the New Oakland Child Adolescent & Family Center in Farmington Hills. I am certified by Postpartum Support International, the National Board of Certified Counselors. I am in the process of completing Level 1 Trauma Certification from the Trauma & Loss Center.
